Mixed media

2022

A result of Amira Hasoon’s fragmented snapshots and pictorial forms of automatic lines and writings in reflection to her time in Manchester, New Hampshire, and as an Artist in Residence at the Factory on Willow.  The title makes reference to Hasoon’s preferred method of recording, LiNe drawing, LiVe drawing, and LiFe drawing.

To look is an act of choice, and therefore, to look simply helps us establish our place in the world.  However, vision alone is skewed by our own perceptual experiences which are fundamentally different from every other, ‘…the way we see things is affected by what we know or believe’ - John Berger.   We use mental shortcuts to reduce the overwhelming amount of information to our senses, adopting patterns to help limit these cognitive processes.

L I (N) (V) (F) E  D R A W I N G, represents Hasoon’s unique narrative of visual data, in accordance with her own cognitive processes, juxtaposed by the understood pattern of normalcy within this new environment.
